The Coronado, a vegetarian restaurant on Seventh Street and East Monte Vista Road, held its first-ever Phonographic Memories storytelling event Tuesday night.
Phonographic Memories is a new monthly event where attendees listen to performers share stories related to the music that has impacted them and then play their chosen record. The Coronado’s small outdoor patio was filled for the event’s debut.
For the lineup, the Coronado picked participants from a close-knit community, said Jose Gonzalez, host of the first Phonographic Memories.
“We basically just thought of the folks that we knew either by being part of the music scene or people that we know who have had lives that have been impacted by music. That became the first lineup for the show,” Gonzalez said.
Liam Murtagh, owner and head chef of Coronado, first got the idea from his uncle who attended a similar event in London. Murtagh named the event as a tribute to his uncle.
“He actually has a song called ‘Phonographic Memories,’ so he was like, ‘Well why don’t you use that name?’” Murtagh said. “It’s a bit of a shout out to my uncle for inspiring the idea.”
