The votes have been tallied. Three rounds of fierce competition have taken place. We’re finally able to give a definitive answer to a very specific question: Who has the best pizza downtown? (according to Downtown Devil readers willing to make their voices heard, of course).
THE LOWDOWN
Our bracket featured 12 of the most prominent pizza spots downtown. These are exclusively known for their takes on ‘za, which is why you don’t see other restaurants like Angel’s Trumpet Ale House or Hanny’s on here.
After the first round, winners moved on to a 3-way battle. Only one from each side advanced to the final round, where downtown’s pizza king was crowned once and for all (well, at least for the foreseeable future). Your votes mattered — in fact, they decided who advanced and who came up short in the battle for pizza supremacy.
P.S. Here’s a quick tip on how we define our coverage boundaries of downtown Phoenix: Seventh Avenue to Seventh Street from West to East, and the southern railroad tracks to McDowell Road from South to North.
RULES
Some may love Cibo’s elegant charm, while others may find Grand Avenue Pizza Company’s chill atmosphere more appealing. Nevermind those factors. We are here to judge one thing and one thing only: pizza. The grease, the dough, the ingredients, that “it” factor.
THE CHAMPION

Pomo Pizzeria is the winner of the Downtown Devil‘s 2015 Pizza Bracket, taking down Cibo in the grand finals and outlasting a field of 12.
We’ve seen it all in this three-stage bracket, from too close to call competition between Pizza People Pub and La Piazza PHX to the shocking upset of perenial favorite Pizzeria Bianco.
With all of the drama in this bracket and all of the change in the downtown pizza scene, there’s some sense in a new challenger taking the throne from Bianco’s constant watching. Pomo certainly wouldn’t have been anyone’s choice to win this bracket two years ago because, well, it didn’t exist downtown two years ago.
Pomo’s authentic style, top-tier crust and flavor that can only come fresh out of a hand-built oven made it the winner in our vote, but the real winner has to be pizza lovers across downtown, who have a medley of options to fill their need for sauce and cheese. And really, who doesn’t identify as a pizza lover?
