CityScape celebrated the start of the Christmas season Saturday with the return of an ice rink and a Christmas tree-lighting ceremony.

This is the second year CityScape developers have brought the NRG Ice Rink and Christmas tree to the mixed-use property. The rink and tree are larger than last year’s offerings, said Jeff Moloznik, development manager of RED Development, the company that leases and manages CityScape.

An estimated 500 people attended the festivities Saturday evening, said Samantha Jackson, program manager for Downtown Phoenix Partnership.

“It’s novel to have an ice rink in the desert,” Jackson said. “Hopefully it brings some much-needed attention to the downtown area.”

The ice rink is open from 5 to 11 p.m. during the week and from 3 to 11 p.m. on weekends between now and Jan. 11. The rink will be open from 3 to 11 p.m. everyday of the week beginning Dec. 19 until Jan. 1. Admission, which includes skate rental, costs $10.
