Thousands of people participated in the two-mile Martin Luther King Junior Day march through downtown Phoenix Monday.
The march began at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church on 14th and Jefferson streets and ended at Margaret T. Hance Park with speeches and food trucks.
Speakers included Phoenix police chief Jeri Williams and her entire executive team, and Pastor Warren Stewart Jr.
Stewart led the march at times while performing an original rap he wrote called “Stay Woke.” A cameraman walked in front of him, playing the backbeats from a speaker strapped to his camera stabilizer and filming Stewart and the crowd for the “Stay Woke” music video.
