This campaigning season has been tough as it is one of the most important for our school. In the shadow of rising tuition costs and a boring downtown life, student leadership will be necessary to move forward. That is why I am endorsing Joseph Grossman and David Bakardjiev for president and vice president of ASASUD. Working to fight tuition costs and to make ASU Downtown a viable and worthwhile place to live, Joe is in the perfect position to lead the Downtown students. Many believe that an ASASUD president has no control over lower tuition for the ASU students, and they would be right. However, someone as closely knit with the state legislature like Joseph Grossman can and will.
The other candidates simply do not have enough experience or have not been in Arizona enough to realize what we downtown students have gone through in the past year. Joe and David have spent the past two years living here on campus, knowing all there is about downtown life. Though their campaign ideals are specifically defined, they will not stop to accomplish what the students downtown want and need. They will tailor their plans for the good of the Downtown student body and will continue to do that for all of the 2011-2012 year.
A second-year student of the Walter Cronkite School and resident of Taylor Place, I have seen what it takes to make downtown into a respectable campus. Unfortunately, I have not yet seen anyone in ASASUD take a legitimate stand against tuition hikes. Joe is the first shot we have at taking down the skyrocketing prices.
So today, vote Joseph Grossman for president and David Bakardjiev for vice president. They will be as much as an ASASUD executive power can be and more.
