Taylor Place opens new kitchen

It’s 11:30 p.m., and you are in dire need of satisfying the beast in your belly. What do you do? You make your way to the comforts of the new Taylor Place community kitchen, where home is just a batch of brownies away.

The community kitchen, located left of management’s office, opened Thursday and is available to Taylor Place residents twenty-four hours a day and during holidays free of charge, a Taylor Place official said.

The kitchen, which is filled with new stainless steal appliances, copious amounts of pots, pans, cooking utensils and baking sheets, is the product of a partnership between the Residential Hall Association, Taylor Place management, Sun Devil Dining and ASU’s department of student engagement.

The only cost of the community kitchen, aside from the ingredients for a meal, is that of time.

Freshman nurse Jackie Sayles said she appreciates the idea of a community kitchen but the issue of time is a nuisance.

“Time is definitely not my thing,” Sayles said. “I would use it as long as I have the time for it.”

The Community Kitchen was designed with the goal of incorporating a comfort space, said Chad Izmirian, senior vice president of Capstone Development.

“My favorite feature of the community kitchen is the big island in the center,” Izmirian said. “It was designed to be a gathering place, a place with open seating around the cooking space.”
