Three places to cram for work

(Lisa Diethelm/DD)

Once you’re in college, work never stops, even after you graduate. Most of the time, we find ourselves cramming in work for deadlines. Downtown Phoenix has a lot of good locations for getting work done in a social setting, whether for work or school.

The Grand

In spirit of lifestyles that just won’t stop chugging, this coffee shop, bar, restaurant and flea market is styled after an old Victorian-era train station, including a vintage gate luring you inside and clocks displaying the time in cities around the world.

With its convenient location near both the light rail line and the Arizona State University Downtown Phoenix campus, The Grand is the perfect space to cram due to its welcoming feel and designated study area located just up a flight of stairs.

Local resident Gavin Rhodehouse finds himself at The Grand almost every day doing work.

“I love the business hours and how good the internet is, “ Rhodehouse said.

The Grand is open 24 hours every day of the year, making it convenient to go to any day or time.

be Coffee + Food + Stuff

From the moment you open the door to the second you leave, be Coffee + Food + Stuff truly makes itself a unique coffee shop, sharing space in a building with colorful plants welcoming you at the front and an art gallery luring you in toward the back.

Located in the heart of Roosevelt Row, the subtle vibes make it the perfect place to get last-minute assignments done or take on work tasks like customer Lea Pitkanen.

“I like spicy cold brew, and they’re the ones that have spicy cold brew. I also like the big space, art gallery, and that it’s within biking distance,” Pitkanen said.

Business hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Teaspressa

Teaspressa is the coffee and tea shop that fulfills every aesthetic look in the book. The shop has a simple style to it at first, but the more you look around, the more details you notice. It has a plant-patterned accent wall and lush greenery in every corner of the room.

In the center of the shop sit two large lounge chairs that are topped with comfortable cushions. In between the two chairs is a large neon sign that reads “C’est La Tea,” Teaspressa’s motto.

With subtle music playing in the background, this coffee and tea shop is perfect for cramming thanks to how de-stressing the environment is. The plants, colors and comfortable seating make partaking in a coffee or tea latte while doing work “zen.”

Grand Canyon University nursing student Angela D’Alessio finds herself doing homework at the shop often when she isn’t busy at school or working in hospitals.

“I live off-campus and I don’t want to drive to the library 24/7, so it’s nice to go out of that element and branch away. It’s just nice to get a different setting for reading notes and stuff like that,” D’Alessio said.

Teaspressa has three different locations across Arizona, but their downtown location is the perfect spot for those working downtown looking to kill time.

Teaspressa’s business hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
