The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix took advantage of the high amount of traffic created by the Super Bowl Central festivities downtown and drew in a crowd to its Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) festival on Saturday. The purpose of the event was to expose young people to the medical field and provide them with some hands-on recreation. There were 65 activities, some of which involved synthetic cadavers, surgical simulations and a photo-op with a skeleton. Allison Otu, the university’s director of outreach, and Al Bravo, the associate director of public affairs, both hold high hopes that the event would inspire the next local generation of doctors, scientists and researchers.
