Downtown’s 6th Street Merchants, a group of shop owners along the street in the Roosevelt Row Arts District, had the mission of restraining the “sexy” costumes this Halloween season with their second “unsexy” Halloween party.

According to the group’s Facebook page created for the event, costumes “must be inherently ‘unsexy’ like a loaf of bread, a tube sock or Gary Coleman.” The costume must then be given a “a splash of sultry.” Attendees and coordinators alike accepted this challenge and brought their unsexy costumes to the sexiest extreme.

According to Andrea Engelsberg, a member of 6th Street Merchants, the donations collected at the event will go toward painting a mural on the side of her building that exemplifies the artistic feel of downtown Phoenix. The mural is set to be painted by mural artist JB Snyder.

While the mural is a noteworthy cause of the event, the “unsexy” bash was coordinated to bring people to Sixth Street in order to have fun and raise awareness of the street’s distinct aspects, Engelsberg said.
