The Downtown campus student government will soon replace former Chief of Staff Travis Moore, who officially stepped down from office in September.
Citing a new public relations internship with Up Agency, Moore said that his schedule was too busy to remain involved in both activities.
Moore went on to say that USGD had been a good match for him at the time and had helped develop his leadership skills, but that the internship was a better fit for his career path.
“I was working 12-15 hours per week for USGD, and that on top of an internship would be too much,” Moore said.
USGD President Joseph Grossman confirmed Moore’s resignation.
“Travis was offered a job opportunity as a PR intern for Up Agency, so he made the decision to resign from USGD,” Grossman said.
Originally, Moore ran for vice president of services on Erika Green’s ticket against Grossman last year, but Moore was urged to run for either the Cronkite or Barrett seat. When it became apparent that Andres Cano, last year’s chief of staff, would not return, Moore said he decided to take on the responsibility.
Moore, who was student body president in high school, was responsible for keeping up with the staff and interns to be sure initiatives were being implemented appropriately and effectively.
Grossman said that they had three interviews during the week of Oct. 15. None of the interviewees are members of USGD.
“We look at the applicants’ resumes, past experience, things like that,” Grossman said.
Senate President Joey Amonett said it would have been the best case scenario if someone was appointed for the last Senate meeting on Friday. He said someone will be appointed by the next meeting next week.
The USGD executive board does not want to leave Moore’s position open for longer than is necessary to find a proper replacement.
“After making my personal decision, I met with the executive board and informed them,” Moore said. “It wasn’t a bad situation by any means, and I think it will be a smooth transition for USGD.”
