On Sunday afternoon, Crescent Ballroom was filled with approximately 350 attendees of the Fifth Annual Devour Phoenix Bartending Competition.
The event featured bartenders from Phoenix Public Market Cafe, District American Kitchen and Wine Bar, The Windsor, Maizie’s Cafe & Bistro, The Clever Koi, The Parlor Pizzeria, The Gladly and Kazimierz World Wine Bar.
Arizona Distilling Company provided several cases of their two liquors, Desert Dry Gin and its well-known Copper City Bourbon. The contest stipulated that the bartenders had to use those two liquors as the primary liquor in the drink. Most of the bartenders then used fresh-squeezed juices and local ingredients to complement the liquor.
Overall, the event showcased not only the excellent skills of the area’s bartenders, but also an effort to enhance the nightlife and culture of the community by demonstrating all there is to offer.
“We really wanted to showcase some of the Valley’s great local talent, some of the great local products that are being produced here in our own backyard and just in general, Devour Phoenix is all about putting Phoenix on the map as a culinary destination,” said Steve Russell, a local food coordinator for Local First Arizona.
