Video: Easley’s Fun Shop set to close after 72 years

After 72 years of family-owned and run operation, Easley’s Fun Shop is set to close by the beginning of next year, according to the family.

“I’m heartbroken,” said Debbie Easley, third generation Easley and the shop’s general manager. “But, I think it’s going to be a really smart move for my family.”

Easley’s Fun Shop began as a small magic shop in 1947, founded by Bert Easley. It grew to the two-story, over 15,000 square foot Fun Shop that it is today.

Debbie Easley said online competition and changes in retail as a business were part of the decision, but that her parents’ age played a larger role.

The Easleys will keep any of the costumes and accessories that they don’t sell or donate, and said they are considering opening pop-up shops when appropriate in the future.
