They slipped. They slid. They spilled (beer).

Dozens of locals participated in downtown Phoenix’s first-ever Super Foos human foosball competition on Friday and Saturday. The event was organized by Kitchen Sink Studios Inc., an advertising and design agency near the corner of Third and Garfield streets.

“Everything’s going swimmingly,” said Nick Hower, event organizer and founder of Kitchen Sink Studios. “No pun intended with the rain.”

The light rain that sprinkled upon the court added a layer of slippery, precarious fun. Some light trash-talking gave way to friendly wagers, and a lost bet by participant Matt Blanchard.

“We’re like lambs in the slaughterhouse out there,” Blanchard said. “Takes a few games to get acclimated to the arena, and when we went under our first game, we got just crushed.”

Needless to say, he was “beered” in the face.

Proceeds from the event will go to Roosevelt Row CDC.
