Converted from an historic home off Roosevelt Row, vintage clothing boutique Nostra Style House held its grand opening soiree Friday, showing off its unique selection.
Angelica Gonzalez, owner of Nostra near Sixth and Garfield streets and similar retailers Butter Toast and GROWop, runs the store with her friend Lili Gomez. Gonzalez, during the grand opening, could be seen pushing through the crowd as she accommodated women trying on clothes.
Nostra’s collection includes pieces from small designers, like Annie Boomer Vintage, ranging from $20 to $250.
Cara Cowsill gushed over a metallic rainbow skirt that hung in the front of the shop. The skirt is just one of the many unique finds at the boutique.
Annie Boomer Vintage is an eBay Inc shop that runs out of an office at the back of the store that sells evening gowns, dresses and jumpsuits from the 40s to the 80s.
Accessory designer Vida Vazquez’s jewelry was displayed at the front of the store on an old vanity. Vazquez’s collection involved colorful and large pieces of costume jewelry.
Clothing and jewelry was not the only kind of art displayed during the opening. Hector Arellano, who performs as DJ Hexsir, played a mix of old and new hip hop songs to entertain the crowd of 200 people that filled the front of the boutique.
Inside the boutique, Arellano’s urban graffiti art adorned the turquoise walls as ladies sifted through dresses.
Journalism student Kacie Irby said the boutique reminded her of Urban Outfitters.
“It’s vintage with a modern flare,” Irby said.
Nostra Style House is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
