We want to hear from you: Downtown Devil seeks community submissions about Jobot

Jobot Coffee and Dining will be closing later this month, as its owner searches for a new building to house the downtown staple.

Owner John Sagasta announced Wednesday with a public Facebook post that “every effort to secure (the) building was unsuccessful,” and the last day of operations would be Dec. 23 or 24, with the business moving out of the building Dec. 26. He added that there were no hard feelings toward the landowner, and that coffee and pastry options would temporarily be moved next door to Melt.

Jobot existed on Fifth Street before coffee shops could be found on nearly every corner of downtown Phoenix, and has weathered a slew of changes that have transformed the area. It has been a community gathering spot, a late-night workplace, a downtown staple.

Downtown Devil isn’t just here to provide your daily dose of downtown Phoenix news, we’re a platform for discussion. And that’s why we want to hear from you.

We want to hear from members of the community about what Jobot meant to them, what it meant for downtown Phoenix and what they hope for its future. We’re looking for essays (they don’t have to be long or fancy) and photos that we can publish. Jobot has been part of the fabric of downtown, and we want to know how it has impacted our readers during its time on Fifth Street.

Send essays and photos by Dec. 21 to news@downtowndevil.com. Please include your name, age and title.

Thanks for the memories, Jobot. We can’t wait to see what’s ahead.
