It’s that time of the week again! It’s… time… for… the Downtown Digest! I’m T.J. Triolo, your guide to what’s going on this week in downtown Phoenix. Here are some interesting events we have coming up this week:
Phoenix Startup Week
- Monday, Feb. 19 – Friday, Feb. 23
- Various events starting at 8 a.m. each day
- George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center, 415 E. Grant St.
This one’s for all the entrepreneurs out there. Got a business idea and want some help with it? Go here. You’ll find plenty of guest speakers and events throughout the week here dedicated to helping startup businesses succeed. So if you’ve got the next big idea that can make you a millionaire (or billionaire if you want to dream big) and want some inspiration, stop by Phoenix Startup Week. And yes, it does run Monday through Friday. Also, if you’re strapped for cash because you’re trying to finance your startup, no worries; this event is free!
Comedians at Law
- Wednesday, Feb. 21
- Starts at 8 p.m.
- Stand Up Live, 50 W. Jefferson St.
When you think of a lawyer, you probably think of someone in a grey suit sitting in a courtroom or office with a serious job. This event seeks to break that stereotype of boring, serious lawyers; it’s a stand-up comedy show starring five lawyers. Honestly, a career in comedy sounds a lot more fun than a career in law, and it’s far more entertaining for the audience! Tickets are $15.
Food Truck Friday
- Friday, Feb. 23
- 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
- Civic Space Park, 424 N. Central Ave.
With the food-truck craze that’s been sweeping the country for the past few years, it comes as no surprise that Phoenix has kept its own food-truck events going strong. Every Friday, Civic Space Park is home to food trucks catering to a variety of different tastes. So whether you want tacos, hot dogs, Italian or somewhere in between, come on down and check out the food trucks. You certainly won’t leave this event hungry!
America’s Got Talent Auditions
- Saturday, Feb. 24
- 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Phoenix Convention Center, 100 N. 3rd St.
Yes, this is THAT America’s Got Talent, the one that’s on national TV. If you’ve got a random talent you can show the judges in a minute and a half, here’s your shot at the big time! Even if your talent is something totally bizarre that will make the judges scratch their heads and wonder what’s going on, then at least you won’t be described with one of Simon Cowell’s most common words for contestants from his American Idol days: “Forgettable.”
Phoenix Vegan Food Festival
- Saturday, Feb. 24
- 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Margaret T. Hance Park, 1202 N. 3rd St.
If you’re vegan, you may have trouble finding a restaurant to eat at, or face very limited menu options. At the Phoenix Vegan Food Festival, you definitely won’t be alone! The whole festival is devoted to vegan food, and it includes demonstrations by vegan chefs, vegan-friendly food and other products for sale. There will also be vegan food trucks, so vegans will have plenty of food options to explore to their hearts’ content. And to top it all off, there will be performances featuring live music. General-admission tickets are $25 online or $30 at the door, while entry is free for kids 12 and under.
