Downtown Digest: Billy Joel and Blue Blast

(Sierra LaDuke/DD)

Hello my amazing downtown people! It’s your guide to everything that’s good downtown, or at least fun events going on this week, T.J. Triolo. I’m back with more random things for you to do this week if you’re bored, need some inspiration or just too lazy to try to find things to do yourself. And if it is laziness, you’ll get no judgment from me. Anyway, here are your weekly events.

HackerNest Phoenix Tech Social
Tuesday March 5
6–9 p.m.
Integrate
111 W. Monroe St.

Most people don’t understand being really nerdy about technology. If that’s you and you feel misunderstood because nobody cares about the processing chip your computer has, this is the place for you. Come join your local tech people for some fun networking and relaxing in a little nest built specially for you. Okay, it’s not a literal nest, but it’s a fun idea to have a literal nest and rest in it like birds. This https://www.meetup.com/HackerNestPHX/events/255756363/”>event is free.

International Women’s Summit
Thursday March 7–Sunday March 10
Starts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 7:30 a.m. all other days
Sheraton Grand Phoenix
340 N. Third St.

If you need some inspiration in your life, the International Women’s Summit is here. Featuring a variety of speakers and events focused on helping you live a more fulfilling life, you can go for just one day or for the whole event. Tickets cost $277–$1497.

Billy Joel at Chase Field
Saturday March 9
Starts at 8 p.m.
Chase Field
401 E. Jefferson St.

The man, the myth, the legend: Billy Joel is coming to Phoenix for the first time in years. I wonder if it’s because it’s stupidly hot here? But hey, we didn’t start the fire; Phoenix has always been burning since the world’s been turning. And as for those of us who live here, don’t judge us; I don’t care what you say anymore, this is my life. Go ahead with your own life and leave me alone. Wow, I think I just made that about half of Billy Joel’s amazing song lyrics. Nailed it. Tickets can be found here.

Blues Blast 2019
Saturday March 9
Doors open at 10 a.m.
Margaret T. Hance Park
1202 N. Third St.

There sure seem to be a lot of music festivals going on lately. This one’s dedicated to blues music, and it’s presented by the Phoenix Blues Society. It will feature the standard festival things; live music, vendors and food. With that said, how many festivals have you gone to that are dedicated to blues music and not something more modern? Come on and get a rhythm, if you’ve got the blues! Tickets cost $15–$30.

CatVideoFest 2019
Sunday March 10
Two showings: 12:30 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.
FilmBar
815 N. Second St.

My precious fluffy babies Shadow and Luna, this one is for you. CatVideoFest is back at FilmBar with cat videos for you on the big screen. Part of the proceeds of this event go to help cats in need, if for some reason you need more of an excuse to watch snuggly little kitties playing and doing stupid things on film anyway. I need to wait for the right moment when my cats are doing weird stuff so I can make them famous. Tickets cost $12.
