Downtown Digest: Fundraisers and festivals

Hello my downtown Phoenix people! It’s T.J. Triolo, your favorite downtown Phoenix guide. It’s almost Halloween, which means I have some sweet events for you this week. See what I did there? After all, candy is involved in some of them. Here’s my latest event lineup!

S’mores and Scholarships
Tuesday Oct. 29
6–8 p.m.
monOrchid
214 E. Roosevelt St.
This event is a fundraiser for the Camp Colley Foundation, which aims to send underserved kids in Phoenix to Camp Colley. Kids at the camp can experience the value of nature. This isn’t an ordinary fundraiser though; the event is camp-themed, and attendees can learn more about Camp Colley for free. To top it all off, the host is Mayor Kate Gallego! Attendance is free, but donation packages in varying amounts are available.

Trick-or-Treat at the Museum
Thursday Oct. 31
9 a.m.– 4 p.m.
Children’s Museum of Phoenix
215 N. Seventh St.
Of course I had to include something that was actually on Halloween on my list here. Kids can collect candy throughout the museum exhibits, and different activities will be available throughout the day. Although costumes are not required, they are recommended. After all, can you call it trick-or-treating if there aren’t costumes involved? Admission is free with museum entry.

2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s
Saturday Nov. 2
Ceremony begins at 9 a.m., walk begins at 9:30 a.m.
Starts at Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza
1700 W. Washington St.
This walk is a fundraiser for research to stop Alzheimer’s Disease, which affects many of us in some way or other. Whether you make a donation, raise funds or just want to walk in the event, you can get involved here in the fight against Alzheimer’s. If you raise $100 or more, you can even get an official commemorative T-shirt. Event participation is free.

2019 Arizona Fall Fest
Saturday Nov. 2
10 a.m.– 4 p.m.
Margaret T. Hance Park
1202 N. Third St.
This festival celebrates fall with local businesses. Featuring more than 200 vendors, an online silent auction, a kids’ area with activities, live performances, food and drinks, this event has something for everyone. Admission is free, and with that free admission comes a free gift bag of free things. Hmm, I wonder how many times I can use “free” in a sentence.

Rainbows Festival
Saturday Nov. 2 and Sunday Nov. 3
10 a.m.–6 p.m. each day
Heritage Square
113 N. Sixth St.
It seems like there are a lot of festivals going on this week! The Rainbows Festival celebrates those of us who identify as LGBTQ+. So if you’re not straight, this street fair is for you. Featuring food, drinks, more than 150 vendors and live entertainment, there’s plenty to do here. You can even bring your dog if you feel like it, or your cat if it’s actually comfortable going places in public. Mine certainly aren’t, so good for you if you’ve managed to train one well enough to go out! Admission to this event is free.
