House Mondays

Cobra Arcade Bar at 801 N. 2nd Street.

If you love to jam to music while you play video games, this is the night for you. This free event features special guest DJs every week.

Exploring Hybrid Literary Arts

Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 5:30 p.m.

Virtual event through Zoom hosted by Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing.

Stories can go beyond words in a novel. During this free event, the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing is hosting a panel of artists that will explore literary possibilities: comic books, graphic novels, zines, doodles and more. The Zoom link will be shared with those who register on Eventbrite.

Après Gallery Yoga

Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 6 – 7 p.m.

monOrchid at 214 E. Roosevelt Street.

Local instructors at Magick Mom Enterprises will lead the 1-hour, donation-based yoga session in the creative and gallery space of monOrchid. Bring your own yoga mat and water bottle. Registration is required. 

LGBTQ Virtual Film Discussion: “Reel in the Closet”

Thursday, Sept. 16  at 12-1 p.m.

Virtual event through WebX hosted by Burton Barr Central Library.

This month attendees will discuss an exploration of the race to preserve LGBTQ home movies in “Reel in the Closet,” available through the Phoenix Public Library’s Kanopy collection. Due to the content of the film, viewer discretion is advised. Registration is required. Summer Zazen Meditation

Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 a.m.

Japanese Friendship Garden at 1125 N. Third Ave.

Learn how to do zazen, a Japanese sitting meditation. This event is free with general admission to the Japanese Friendship Garden.

Downtown Phoenix Farmer’s Market

Saturday, Sept. 18 at 7 – 11 a.m.

​​721 N. Central Ave.

Pick up some ingredients for your next culinary creation or try yummy bites at local vendors’ booths. If you see me stuffing my face with way too much (or is this really just enough?) Tunisian food at Nabiha Bejaoui’s Habbouz Cuisine, mind your business. I have no regrets. Admission is free.

Jazzy Brunch

Sunday, Sept. 19 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

El Charro Hipster Bar and Cafe at 1325 N.W. Grand Ave. #4

To quote Barry B. Benson, “Ya like jazz?” If you enjoy jazz as much as I like breakfast food, spend this Sunday eating El Charro Hipster’s expansive brunch menu and listening to music at this no-cover event.
