What’s up my downtown Phoenix people!? I hope you’re having a fun and spooky Halloween season. This time of year means chocolate. Sugar is amazing to me. It’s possible I’m addicted. However, I’ll say that the events this week are also sweet, so here you go!
Stuff You Should Know
Wednesday Oct. 24
Starts at 8 p.m.
Orpheum Theatre
203 W. Adams St.
This sounds like my kind of event. Stuff You Should Know is a podcast featuring random facts (that have been researched beforehand) of all kinds. The show is hosted by Josh Clark and Chuck Bryant, who have recorded over 1000 episodes over the course of 10 years. This show is the live version, which is advertised as being “10-20% funnier” than the podcast. I thrive on random, useless knowledge. It could even help up your trivia game. https://phoenix.ticketforce.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=445″>Tickets cost $30-$40.
Otsukimi Moonviewing Festival
Friday Oct. 26 and Saturday Oct. 27
6:30–10 p.m.
Japanese Friendship Garden
1125 N. 3rd Ave.
It’s a traditional Japanese moon viewing festival, during which people look at the beautiful moon in the middle of fall. Come enjoy Japanese drinks, both of the tea and alcoholic varieties, and food like mochi, bao buns and sweets. There will also be traditional Japanese music, making this a traditional example of traditional Japanese culture. Basically, that sounds enjoyable to me! Japanese culture is pretty interesting after all. Tickets cost $25 if ordered beforehand and $30 at the gate.
Mesquite Pancake Breakfast
Saturday Oct. 27
9 a.m.–12 p.m.
The Space Between Park
517 N. 1st St.
Pancakes are involved. This means sugary, syrupy goodness. This breakfast is here to raise money for Trees Matter, an organization dedicated to increasing how many trees are around as a canopy in the Valley. So come get breakfast and support adding more shade to Phoenix, because we need a lot more shade to keep us downtownPhoenix cool. Tickets cost $20.
Haunted Phoenix Bus Tour
Saturday Oct. 27
3–5 p.m.
Clarendon Hotel + Suites (starting point for the tour)
401 W. Clarendon Ave.
Okay, so this tour doesn’t start in downtown; however, it goes through a lot of haunted places downtown. This includes the Orpheum Hotel, First Baptist Church at Third Avenue and Monroe Street, and the San Carlos Hotel. I don’t believe in ghosts or spirits myself, but I can’t deny that a lot of people think these places are haunted. I’d be curious to see if I could find any strange happenings myself at these buildings. If any are found though, you know who you’re gonna call. Tickets cost $30.
Adam Carolla’s Basic Cable Commentary
Saturday Oct. 27
Two shows starting at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Stand Up Live
50 W. Jefferson St.
If you haven’t heard of Adam Carolla, he’s an actor and comedian. And he happens to be pretty famous. He’s coming to Stand Up Live for one night, where he’s bringing his podcast “Basic Cable Commentary” to Phoenix. During this segment, he’ll provide commentary on movies from the 1980s. I love 1980s movies, so I’m curious which ones Carolla’s going to pick to comment on. Considering that he’s a comedian, It’s probably better than what I could provide, considering my commentary involves more puns than should ever exist. Suffer my puns! Tickets cost $28 excluding taxes and fees.
