Another week has passed, which means it’s time for the Downtown Digest. It’s T.J. Triolo, your downtown guide, back with some new events for you. This week also comes with a bonus: Sunday is Father’s Day, so go ahead and take your dad to one of these events with you! On another note, the Burton Barr Central Library is finally reopening after water damage.

The Phoenix Children’s Museum is going to be celebrating its 10th anniversary this Thursday. I remember going there when I was a lot younger, probably shortly after the museum opened. The Arizona Indoor Custom Car Show and Concert
Saturday, June 16
11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Phoenix Convention Center North Building
100 N. 3rd St.
Of course there’s a giant car show going on when I’ll be on vacation in California. I swear, it’s a conspiracy against me and my love of cars. (I’m just kidding.) The event will feature live music and over 500 cars of various types. Whether you like lowriders, muscle cars or trucks, this show will have plenty of variety for you. It’s also inside so take advantage of the opportunity to get out of the house while still avoiding the heat. Tickets are $20 per a person. Kids 12 and under get in free.
12th Annual Bloomin’ Beerfest
Saturday, June 16
7:00 – 11:00 p.m.
Irish Cultural Center
1106 N. Central Ave.
Here’s an ode to Irish culture that commemorates the famous Irish novel “Ulysses” by James Joyce, and another great part of Irish culture: beer! This event will have a costume contest, craft beer tasting, live music and readings from “Ulysses.” Tickets cost $30 online, $40 at the door. A total of 16 beer tastings are included in the price. Tickets for those not drinking are also available for $12 before the event and $15 at the door. Children 12 and under get in for $5.
Burton Barr Central Library Reopening
Saturday, June 16
Starts at 9 a.m.
Burton Barr Central Library
1221 N. Central Ave.
The Burton Barr Central Library is finally reopening after being closed for almost a year. The library closed in mid-July after sustaining serious water damage from a pipe that burst during a monsoon storm. Now the library’s going to be back and better than ever with renovated facilities. To celebrate their reopening, the library is going to have activities throughout the day, including a children’s story time, crafts for adults and one called “Build a Droid.” I’m curious what kind of droids are going to be built! The reopening day event is free.
