Downtown Digest: Tuesday Trivia and African Fashion

(Nicole Neri/DD)

Hi downtown people, T’m T.J. Triolo, and I’m back with another edition of the Downtown Digest! Your weekly guide to downtown Phoenix events is here, so never fear. Here are some interesting events coming up this week for you:

Seinfeld Trivia Night!
Tuesday Aug. 21
Sign up starts at 7 p.m

Valley Bar

Do you know a lot about nothing, I mean, Seinfeld? Yes, a lot of trivia nights go on downtown. Yes, they are worth going to, because there are probably a lot of people like me with random useless knowledge that needs to be put to the test. So go out and answer some trivia with a group of friends, and shame them when they get things wrong. The top three teams will get prizes, which is even more of an incentive to go. This event is free.

Growhouse Garden Day
Saturday Aug. 25
Starts at 8 a.m.
Growhouse 2.0
1025 N. 2nd St.

It’s time to get the Growhouse garden going again! I wrote an amazing article about it last year that you should read to make me more popular. Seriously though, come get the garden ready for the fall planting season. Once ready, the Growhouse community garden will grow some nice vegetables and help make downtown a little more natural and green. Just bring your own water and sunblock; all tools will be provided. This event is free.

Lagos: African Fashion Show
Saturday Aug. 25
Starts at 6 p.m.
FOUND:RE Phoenix
1100 N. Central Ave.

Celebrate African culture at this show featuring African-themed art and fashion. The event will explore all of Africa’s heritage and people, including the past, the present, and the future. Come experience the beauty Africa has to offer through beautiful colors and designs. General admission starts at $30.

Wheel of Misfortune: Retro Game Show Night
Saturday Aug. 25
Starts at 7:30 p.m.
Valley Bar
130 N. Central Ave.

This seems like a night of craziness. Event attendees play vintage game shows hosted by drag queen Tempest DuJour. Contestants from the audience mingle with “celebrity” guests. This event sounds like a lot of fun. I love games, and I want to play! This event costs $12.

Arizona Filmmaker Showcase
Sunday Aug. 26
Starts at 6 p.m.
FilmBar
815 N. 2nd St.

Films are made in places other than Hollywood and Atlanta. We have filmmakers in our own backyard, so come on out and give them your support. This event will feature screenings of shorts and features made by people here in Arizona. Show the world that yes, even in the middle of the desert we have people who can make movies. I’ve even dabbled a little bit in moviemaking myself years ago, but decided stop motion movies with Legos really aren’t for me. Tickets cost $7.
