Hello downtown Phoenix people! It’s T.J. Triolo, your guide to staying inside. Whether you’re into cycling, art or want to figure out some way to make your own face mask, take a guess how many of the above activities I’ve got for you this week. If you answered “make your own face mask,” you get partial credit. The answer is all of the above, so check out the details below.
Free Instagram Modern Dance Classes
Friday April 24 at 6 p.m.
The Phoenix Center for the Arts is putting modern dance classes live on Instagram designed to use a small space. This is definitely useful when you think about the fact that you’re probably in your apartment or house and don’t have a lot of room. I know when I did hip hop dancing as a teenager, my routines took up a lot of space. If I were to do them in my apartment, I’d probably break things. A lot of things.
Virtual Sunday Group Ride
Sunday April 26 at 8 a.m.
The Velo may no longer be hosting in person bike rides for a while, but that doesn’t mean you can’t join in the fun virtually through Zwift. Zwift is a virtual running and biking training simulator. To me, that just sounds like a video game, which I’m going to assume involves a treadmill or stationary bike. Wow, reminds me of my old racing simulator games. I should probably pick up another one come to think of it.
Sewing Masks & Accessories Online Class
Tuesday April 21 and Friday April 24 from 6-8 p.m.
The Phoenix Center for the Arts is really stepping up their online offerings for the community, complete with online mask sewing classes Tuesday and Friday evenings. If you don’t have a mask because they’re sold out at a lot of places, check out this class here. I can’t imagine sewing them would be that hard either; I’ve sewn stuff together before that hasn’t turned out horribly, and I’m clumsy, so give it a try and rock your own stylish CDC-recommended mask!
YMCA Healthy Living Resources
Don’t turn into a couch potato just because you’re staying at home. The YMCA is offering online health resources while you’re stuck inside. Whether you need some help with your mental health, ideas for a diet, live workouts or a way to log exercise and keep you accountable, the YMCA has something for you. My accountability practice, personally, is me asking myself whether I’ve exercised that day, and if I haven’t and it’s not a day I planned to rest, then I go ahead and exercise in some capacity or else I feel lazy. My often-sore muscles can attest to this.
Ford’s Theatre Virtual Tour
If you’re looking for an American cultural experience to look into our history, this virtual tour offers a look at Ford’s Theatre, a historic theater where an important event happened. Anyone care to take a guess? I’m going to be sad if you don’t get this. Last chance. Okay, so if you didn’t know, Abraham Lincoln was shot here. It was an event pivotal to our nation’s history, and you can take a virtual tour of the theater where it happened. Considering it’s on the other side of the country anyway, now would be the perfect time to take a virtual tour.
