Hello everyone, I’m back again! It’s T.J. Triolo with your weekly guide to events happening downtown in the upcoming week. Here are a few that caught my eye!
F*ckUp Nights Phoenix
- Tuesday, Feb. 6
- 8 p.m.
- Crescent Ballroom, 308 N. 2nd Ave.
Okay, I have to admit: This one caught my eye because of the event’s name. I just HAD to find out what it’s about. Turns out, it’s an event where entrepreneurs are given seven minutes and allowed to use 10 images in a presentation about a business. However, this isn’t about why anyone should invest in their business or how it’s been successful. No, this event strays from the usual: The speakers talk about how their business failed! There is also time for networking among attendees after the speakers are finished. Oh, and to top it all off, the event’s also free!
History and Culture Trolley Tour
- Thursday, Feb. 8
- 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- Phoenix Rising Tour Company, 125 N. 2nd St.
Here’s an event for people like me (I’m a history nerd who likes learning about the past from museums, old artifacts and historic buildings). This tour is on a bus that has been converted to look like a trolley, which you’ve probably seen before. Now the difference is that this is no normal trolley ride: This trolley ride takes you around downtown Phoenix on a two-hour tour. During the tour, riders will learn about both past and present cultural events and places in downtown Phoenix. So get on board and become a downtown Phoenix history aficionado, impressing your friends with your new knowledge of the city! The tour costs $29 per person.
City Lights Movie Nights – Zootopia
- Friday, Feb. 9
- 6:30 p.m.
- CityScape, 1 E. Washington St.
It’s that time again: CityScape is hosting another movie night in its courtyard area. Moviegoers can come see Zootopia (which is kid-friendly, so families can bring the little ones) on the big screen for free. Oh, one thing though: You might want to bring picnic blankets or folding chairs, unless you like standing for an entire movie.
1Mission’s Bikes Fight Poverty Ride
- Saturday, Feb. 10
- 6:30 a.m.
- CityScape, 1 E. Washington St.
Here’s a real marathon event for those who like cycling: A ride from downtown Phoenix all the way to Puerto Peñasco, Mexico, also known as Rocky Point! The event is hosted by 1Mission, a Christian charitable organization dedicated to building better shelters for those living in poverty in other countries. The event’s $250 registration fee also requires a $500 minimum amount of fundraising needed to benefit the organization. Want to do some good for people living in inadequate housing? Then get on the bike, make sure your activity tracker (No brand names here!) is charged up and start pedaling!
Sunday Funday Sip & Shop Pop Up Market
- Sunday, Feb. 11
- 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- DeSoto Central Market, 915 N. Central Ave.
Do you like Sunday brunch? Do you like flea markets where vendors come and sell many types of crafts and handmade things? Then this event is for you! Not only will the vendors be there, but DeSoto Central Market offers a variety of food and drink options, and there will also be live music. The event is free to get in, but the free admission price doesn’t include any food, drinks or goods, so bring plenty of cash (or credit cards) along and go on a shopping spree!
