Local garage rock band Mr. Mudd & Mr. Gold stand out with… a banjo

Mr. Mudd & Mr. Gold has everything a normal garage rock band needs: a lead singer, drums, bass, guitar, banjo … Wait, banjo?

Lead singer Tyler Matock met banjo player Jesse Gray at a local open mic. After a few weeks of watching each other perform, the duo started jamming together, eventually writing their own original songs.

After years of performing as a duo, Matock and Gray decided to find a drummer and bassist to become a full band. That’s where Connor Pritchard and Sam Bohlman came in.

Last month, Mr. Mudd & Mr. Gold were asked to open for indie rock band Peach Pit at The Van Buren. The touring openers were stuck in California. With only a few hours to put together a set, Mr. Mudd & Mr. Gold came together and performed at their first-ever sold-out show.

The band’s Spotify listeners quintupled in the two weeks following the show, and encouraged them to release a new single ahead of schedule.

The band will be performing on Saturday, April 9 at the FRIED Festival at Margaret T. Hance Park. People can stream their music on Spotify and Apple Music and follow them on Instagram @mrmuddmrgold.
